Tragedy struck in South Sacramento on Saturday night when a man was killed in a hit-and-run collision. The Sacramento Police Department confirmed that the victim was William Andrew Akens Jr. The incident happened just after 8:30 p.m. near Lemon Avenue and 65th Street.

When emergency responders arrived at the scene, they found Akens Jr. already deceased. The vehicle responsible for the crash had fled before officers could arrive, leaving behind no immediate clues. Due to the severity of the incident, detectives from the Major Collision Investigation Unit, along with Crime Scene Investigators, were called in to examine the area and gather evidence.

Authorities are asking anyone who might have witnessed the crash or has any information that could help with the investigation to contact the Sacramento Police Department's dispatch center at 916-808-5471.

A Monterey County Sheriff's Office patrol vehicle was involved in a crash Wednesday at the intersection of Blanco and Davis Roads. According to preliminary reports, a white Audi was heading east on Blanco while the sheriff’s vehicle was traveling south, responding to a domestic incident with its lights and sirens on. Witnesses on the scene shared that the Audi had a green light as it entered the intersection. As the patrol vehicle attempted to clear the intersection, the two vehicles collided. The impact left the Audi crumpled against a traffic pole with noticeable damage to the driver’s side and a deployed airbag. The patrol vehicle suffered front-end damage. A 54-year-old woman who had been driving the Audi was trapped inside and had to be extricated by emergency responders. She was transported to the hospital for treatment. Despite the crash, traffic in the area remains open, though delays have been reported. The exact cause of the collision is still under investigation. An early morning crash on Interstate 5 near Highway 152, just west of Los Banos in Merced County, has left one man dead and several others seriously injured. The collision occurred before 5 a.m. Thursday when a van carrying eight people was rear-ended by a big rig as it attempted to exit the highway. The force of the impact pushed the van off the road, sending it into a guardrail before it rolled down an embankment. According to the California Highway Patrol, one man was ejected from the van and pronounced dead at the scene. His identity has not yet been released. Three other men suffered major injuries and were taken to a nearby hospital. Officers noted that none of the four individuals who were ejected or injured had been wearing seatbelts. The remaining four passengers, who were wearing seatbelts, were unharmed. The van had been traveling from Mendota. The driver of the big rig reportedly fled the scene, and authorities are now treating the case as a suspected hit-and-run. Investigators continue to search for the truck driver involved in the crash. A devastating four-vehicle crash on Highway 1 near Rancho San Julian claimed the lives of three teenagers and left two adults with major injuries on Sunday evening. The collision happened just after 6 p.m. along the stretch of highway between Lompoc and Gaviota, drawing response from the Buellton California Highway Patrol, Santa Barbara Sheriff’s Office, and Santa Barbara County Fire Department. Investigators say a 2007 Toyota Yaris, heading southbound, veered into the northbound lane and collided head-on with a 2024 Tesla Model 3. The impact pushed the Tesla into a 2012 Audi Q5 traveling south, and a fourth vehicle, a 2002 Honda Accord, was also hit. Tragically, all three people inside the Toyota Yaris died at the scene. The victims have been identified as 18-year-old Jake Curtis of Goleta (the driver), and passengers Michael Ochsner, 17, and Alexander Wood, 15, both of Santa Barbara. All three were students at Dos Pueblos High School and worked as lifeguards for Santa Barbara County. The two individuals in the Tesla, 54-year-old physician Hafez Nasr and 53-year-old Saghar Golpayegani, both of Lompoc, sustained major injuries. Nasr was transported by ambulance, while Golpayegani was airlifted by CalStar helicopter to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital for treatment. The drivers of the Audi and Honda—Luke Karmen, 16, and Daniel Switzer, 17, both high school students from Santa Barbara—suffered minor injuries. “This was a tragedy, and local families have lost loved ones,” said Lieutenant Jason Bronson, Commander of the Buellton CHP Area. “We grieve with the families and work every day to prevent this loss of life in our communities.” The crash remains under investigation. Authorities ask anyone with additional information to contact the Buellton Area CHP office at (805) 691-6160. Highway 1 was temporarily closed in both directions but has since reopened.
