Today’s consumers love convenience, especially since the dawn of COVID-19. Shopping online and home delivery services have become a mainstay in our society today. Leading the pack is everyone’s favorite online retailer, Amazon. Amazon is on a mission to provide every American with the convenience of next-day delivery.

But more, faster, deliveries mean more, faster, drivers and increased danger on the roads. The convenience that we’ve all come to know and love can come at a cost. An Amazon truck accident is not uncommon.

If you’ve been involved in an Amazon accident, liability may not be clear, which is why a dedicated truck accident lawyer is needed to make sure you get the compensation and settlement you deserve from all negligent parties.

How an Amazon Accident Occurs

If you’ve ever wondered how Amazon can offer such speedy, expedited delivery, it’s because they have contracts with numerous small companies in their vast delivery network. These drivers are put under considerable pressure to deliver hundreds of packages on time in a single daily shift. In addition, it’s been reported that these delivery drivers are under the direction of dispatchers who continually push them to keep working without any breaks until all of their packages are delivered.

With the speed of delivery being the number one job satisfaction indicator, Amazon delivery drivers are often forced to cut corners and take considerable risks to make sure that they complete their routes on time. This is when an Amazon accident is likely to occur. With drivers under intense pressure to perform or lose their jobs, they frequently begin to drive negligently to keep up with Amazon’s standards of performance. Knowing this information, it’s easy to see how an Amazon truck accident could be common.

Here are the top ways commercial truck accidents, like those involving an Amazon driver, occur:

  • Speeding and aggressive driving: this can include tailgating, running red lights or stop signs, failure to signal, unsafe lane changes, etc.
  • Distracted driving: Drivers are often overtasked with conversing with the dispatcher, delivering their next package, and operating their GPS.
  • Making sudden stops or turns: With so many packages to deliver in such little time, it’s easy for drivers to miss their turn and need to deploy their brakes quickly to get back on track.
  • Driving while fatigued: Amazon drivers are required to work long shifts with hundreds of packages to deliver each day and little to no rest.
  • Negligence in parking: In their hustle to get the next package delivered in time, drivers often double park or forget their parking brake when dashing to the next doorstep.

Holding Amazon Liable for a Commercial Truck Accident

The way that Amazon operates with its private delivery network is that the drivers who deliver the packages work for various third-party companies, i.e., they are not Amazon employees. When an Amazon delivery driver causes an auto accident, Amazon notoriously denies any responsibility as they do not directly own the vehicles or employ the drivers who are making the deliveries. In these situations, it can be difficult to hold Amazon responsible.

This is why you need an experienced truck accident lawyer on your side. The team at Frank Penney Injury Lawyers has gone toe to toe with big companies like Amazon before and will gladly do it again to get you the compensation you deserve and to hold them accountable for the delivery drivers they utilize to deliver their goods. A tragic accident in Laguna Beach claimed the life of a 64-year-old father who was teaching his teenage daughter how to drive. The crash occurred late Monday afternoon along the Pacific Coast Highway, a route known for its scenic beauty, and, unfortunately, its share of dangers. James Politoski was in the passenger seat when the car, reportedly driven by his 15-year-old daughter with a learner’s permit, lost control. Authorities say the vehicle broke through a fence barrier, tumbled down an embankment, and flipped upside down onto the highway below. Laguna Beach police arrived at the crash at around 2:45 p.m., and the father was pronounced dead at the scene. The daughter was transported to Mission Hospital in Mission Viejo with significant injuries, police said. As of Wednesday morning, the teenager was in stable condition at the hospital and expected to survive. The Laguna Beach Police Department, which confirmed the details of the incident, expressed deep sorrow over the loss. Lieutenant Jesse Schmidt called it a heartbreaking situation, noting that it not only devastated the families involved but also sent shockwaves through the entire community. “It is always difficult when an accident leads to the loss of life, especially under circumstances where a parent was simply trying to do the right thing by teaching their child a valuable life skill,” he said. A Monterey County Sheriff's Office patrol vehicle was involved in a crash Wednesday at the intersection of Blanco and Davis Roads. According to preliminary reports, a white Audi was heading east on Blanco while the sheriff’s vehicle was traveling south, responding to a domestic incident with its lights and sirens on. Witnesses on the scene shared that the Audi had a green light as it entered the intersection. As the patrol vehicle attempted to clear the intersection, the two vehicles collided. The impact left the Audi crumpled against a traffic pole with noticeable damage to the driver’s side and a deployed airbag. The patrol vehicle suffered front-end damage. A 54-year-old woman who had been driving the Audi was trapped inside and had to be extricated by emergency responders. She was transported to the hospital for treatment. Despite the crash, traffic in the area remains open, though delays have been reported. The exact cause of the collision is still under investigation. An early morning crash on Interstate 5 near Highway 152, just west of Los Banos in Merced County, has left one man dead and several others seriously injured. The collision occurred before 5 a.m. Thursday when a van carrying eight people was rear-ended by a big rig as it attempted to exit the highway. The force of the impact pushed the van off the road, sending it into a guardrail before it rolled down an embankment. According to the California Highway Patrol, one man was ejected from the van and pronounced dead at the scene. His identity has not yet been released. Three other men suffered major injuries and were taken to a nearby hospital. Officers noted that none of the four individuals who were ejected or injured had been wearing seatbelts. The remaining four passengers, who were wearing seatbelts, were unharmed. The van had been traveling from Mendota. The driver of the big rig reportedly fled the scene, and authorities are now treating the case as a suspected hit-and-run. Investigators continue to search for the truck driver involved in the crash.
