A tragic bicycle accident on Tuesday evening left a young boy severely injured after a collision on Salida Boulevard near Broadway Avenue.

The incident occurred around 6:25 p.m. when the 12-year-old cyclist entered the intersection against a red light while traveling east. A northbound 2019 Acura sedan, which had the green light, struck the boy.

Responding officers found the child lying on the roadway near the damaged car. Paramedics quickly transported him to Doctors Medical Center to treat his serious injuries. Authorities confirmed that the boy was wearing a helmet at the time, which may have prevented even worse injuries.

The Acura’s driver, identified as 28-year-old Maria Torres of Salida, remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators.

Fatal Motorcycle Crash in Elk Grove, California Leaves 21-Year-Old Rider Dead

The impact threw the rider from the motorcycle, and despite the quick response of medical personnel, the young motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities have not yet released the rider’s name, awaiting notification of next of kin by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office. The roadway remained closed throughout the morning as police investigated the crash, reopening to traffic around noon. Sacramento Driver Arrested After Deadly Natomas Pedestrian Crash
