Frank Penney • Mar 26, 2024

FORESTHILL, Calif. — A devastating accident rocked the quiet community of Foresthill early Tuesday morning, claiming the life of a 16-year-old boy and leaving four other teenagers seriously injured. The incident occurred around 1:10 a.m. on Foresthill Road, east of Mayflower Road, sending shockwaves through the Placer County area.

According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the fatal crash involved a 2020 Toyota RAV4, driven by the 16-year-old boy, which tragically collided with a tree. The driver succumbed to his injuries at the scene, while his four passengers, all aged between 16 and 17, sustained major injuries and were promptly rushed to a nearby hospital for urgent medical care.

While investigations are ongoing, authorities have hinted at the possible involvement of alcohol in the accident. The CHP revealed that the driver failed to negotiate a curve in the road, leading to the fatal collision. The devastating outcome has left the entire community reeling with sorrow and disbelief.

The Placer Union High School District, deeply affected by the loss, released a heartfelt statement expressing condolences and solidarity with the grieving families. Foresthill High School, where the deceased teen was a student, is particularly shaken by the tragedy. The district's statement underscores the immense difficulty in processing such a loss, especially when it involves young lives cut short.

In their statement, the Placer Union High School District said:

"Foresthill High School, along with the entire Placer Union High School District, is mourning the loss of a student as the result of a motor vehicle accident that occurred in the early morning hours of March 26, 2024. Three other Foresthill High School students were injured in the accident and are receiving medical attention. Such tragedies, especially when they involve young people, are very difficult to process. Community Resources have been provided to our students and staff and following Spring Break, additional counselors, mental health specialists, and chaplains will be on-site to offer support for as long as needed.

Please join us in keeping the Foresthill students, staff, and community in your thoughts during these difficult times."

The aftermath of this tragic event has prompted an outpouring of support from the community, with plans underway to provide additional counseling and mental health services to help those affected cope with the profound loss. As Foresthill grapples with the aftermath of this heartbreaking incident, the memory of the young lives lost and forever altered serves as a poignant reminder of the fragility of life and the importance of cherishing every moment.

Early Friday morning in Stockton, tragedy struck as a pedestrian lost their life in a harrowing collision involving several vehicles, including a big rig, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP). The incident occurred approximately at 4:46 a.m. along the southbound lanes of Highway 99, near the Cherokee Road onramp, situated in San Joaquin County. For reasons yet to be determined, an individual was walking on the roadway when they were first struck by a big rig traveling at an estimated speed of 50 mph. Subsequently, additional vehicles collided with the pedestrian as the big rig came to a stop, as reported by CHP. In response to the crash, CHP promptly closed off the freeway to conduct investigations. While the #3 and #4 lanes were reopened to traffic at 8:13 a.m., the thoroughfare was completely cleared by 10:43 a.m. Fortunately, the driver of the big rig emerged from the incident unscathed and was found not to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of the accident, according to CHP statements. However, it remains unclear whether the pedestrian was impaired. This tragic incident serves as a sobering reminder of the importance of road safety and vigilance for both pedestrians and drivers alike. A tragic incident unfolded Wednesday morning in Moss Landing, as confirmed by the California Highway Patrol (CHP), resulting in the loss of one individual's life. At approximately 5:48 a.m., a red Honda Civic, driven by a 27-year-old man from Watsonville, was traveling eastward on Castroville Boulevard, preparing to execute a left turn onto northbound Elkhorn Road. Simultaneously, a red Honda Forza Moped, operated by a 52-year-old man, was heading west on Castroville Boulevard, nearing the intersection with Elkhorn Road. CHP reports that as the Civic driver initiated the left turn, it intersected with the direct path of the oncoming Moped, culminating in a devastating collision. Tragically, the impact caused the Moped driver to be forcibly ejected from the vehicle, resulting in fatal injuries. The CHP confirmed that the Moped driver, identified as Michael Pacifico Carrillo of Prunedale by the Monterey County Sheriff's Office, was pronounced deceased at the scene. Further investigations conducted by the CHP indicated that alcohol did not play a role in the crash, providing some clarity amidst the tragedy that unfolded on the roadways of Moss Landing that fateful morning. Downtown Fresno is bustling once more as traffic resumes its normal flow after a significant collision entangling multiple semi-trucks. The aftermath of the crash resulted in a temporary closure of a stretch of northbound 99, causing significant delays for commuters for several hours. The incident occurred shortly before 5 pm along the 99, just a bit north of the junction with Highway 41. According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the collision involved not one, but two big rigs, and a Ford F-250 utility truck, creating a complex scene that required careful navigation by emergency responders. Of particular concern was the condition of the driver of the Ford F-250, who had to be extricated from the mangled wreckage of the truck. Rushed to the hospital for urgent medical attention, the latest update on his condition indicates that he remains in critical condition, underscoring the severity of the collision. As investigations into the incident unfold, authorities have refrained from disclosing the circumstances leading up to the crash, leaving questions lingering about the events that culminated in the chaotic collision on the busy highway.
