Tragedy on New Year’s Day: Pregnant Woman Killed in Gilroy Crash

A devastating three-vehicle crash claimed the life of a 29-year-old pregnant woman in Gilroy on New Year’s Day, authorities reported. The tragic incident occurred around 6:37 PM on Leavesley Road, just east of New Avenue.

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) is actively investigating the collision, which involved a 2008 GMC truck, a 2023 Chevrolet SUV, and a 2020 Honda sedan. Officers quickly responded after receiving the initial report from their dispatch center.

According to preliminary findings, a 50-year-old man was driving the GMC truck at high speed in the eastbound lane of Leavesley Road. For reasons still under investigation, the truck veered into the westbound lane, heading straight into oncoming traffic. The GMC first struck a Chevrolet SUV before continuing on and colliding with a Honda sedan traveling behind the SUV.

The right front passenger of the Chevrolet—a 29-year-old pregnant woman from Gilroy—tragically lost her life in the crash. Authorities have not yet released her name.

Investigators suspect alcohol may have been a factor in the collision, the CHP stated.

This heartbreaking incident serves as a somber reminder of the dangers of impaired and reckless driving. The investigation remains ongoing as authorities work to piece together the events leading up to the crash.
