Tragic Solo Rollover Claims Life of 35-Year-Old Driver on Highway 1

Frank Penney • June 25, 2024

A devastating accident on Sunday afternoon claimed the life of a 35-year-old driver in a solo rollover on Highway 1, marking the first of two fatal crashes over the weekend.

The driver, whose identity remains undisclosed pending family notification, was traveling southbound near Dimeo Lane in a silver 2007 Chrysler Town & Country minivan, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP). Emergency responders swiftly arrived at the scene at 12:41 p.m. following the crash.

Preliminary investigations by the CHP suggest that the driver veered to the right for reasons yet unknown, colliding with a metal guardrail before careening southeastward and crashing into a dirt embankment.

The impact caused the Chrysler to overturn onto the asphalt, ejecting the driver. Despite immediate life-saving efforts, the driver tragically passed away at the scene.

As of Monday, CHP investigators are continuing to determine the cause of the crash and have not concluded whether alcohol or drugs played a role in the incident.

A devastating crash in Piedmont, California, that killed three young adults in November 2024 is now being further illuminated by toxicology reports. Nineteen-year-old Soren Dixon, the driver of a Tesla Cybertruck that slammed into a tree and wall at around 3:00 a.m., was found to have a blood alcohol level of 0.195%—more than twice the legal limit—and had cocaine in his system at the time of the crash. The collision claimed the lives of Dixon and two of his passengers, Jack Nelson, 20, and Krysta Tsukahara, 19, all of whom were graduates of Piedmont High School. Dixon had been attending the University of Southern California, Nelson was a student at the University of Colorado Boulder, and Tsukahara was a sophomore at the Savannah College of Art and Design. According to autopsy and toxicology reports, both Nelson and Tsukahara also had alcohol and cocaine in their systems. Nelson’s blood alcohol content was measured at 0.168%, while Tsukahara’s was 0.028%. All three were pronounced dead at the scene and suffered severe burns as a result of the crash. A fourth passenger, identified as 20-year-old Jordan Miller, was pulled from the vehicle by a passing motorist and was hospitalized in stable condition. Miller, a sophomore at the University of Wisconsin, survived the crash and was later identified by his mother. The tragic accident occurred during Thanksgiving break, and authorities believe the group was home visiting for the holiday. In a statement released on Facebook, Piedmont Police expressed their condolences, saying, “Our hearts remain heavy in the aftermath of the tragic vehicle collision,” and thanked the community for its support during a profoundly difficult time.
